A new conversation, a different AI—do you have to explain it all again?

Animesis is a governance-based memory system for long-term AI collaboration. Once connected to Animesis, supported AI tools can continue using the project background, preferences and decisions you have already saved. Here are 15 questions about memory, getting started and the beta.

A new conversation without repeating the background

Whether you start a new conversation with the same AI or switch to another supported AI, the background saved in Animesis can still be used.

How can I avoid explaining my project again every time I start a new AI conversation?

With an AI that supports Animesis, you can continue using saved project background, preferences and confirmed decisions in a new conversation, without explaining them again.

These memories are stored on your device, where you can view and correct them at any time. Pick up where you left off.

Can several AIs use the same set of preferences?

Supported AIs can connect to the same Animesis memory. How you want reports written, where a project stands and which requirements have been confirmed are all saved here, so you do not have to explain them separately to each AI.

How do I keep my project background when I switch AI?

When switching to another AI that supports Animesis, connect it to your existing memory. It can then continue using the project background, preferences and decisions already saved there, without asking you to explain the same background again.

The new AI may have different capabilities and a different style, but it can use the saved background. See Getting started for supported tools and connection steps.

How does memory governance differ from storing and retrieving memories?

Storage and retrieval address how information is saved and found when needed. Memory governance also asks who can write or modify it, under what conditions, how earlier records are retained after a change, and who sets the rules.

Animesis considers not just whether something was remembered, but who decides, what changed and why. You can correct memories while keeping earlier records and the reasons for changes. Storage, retrieval and governance can coexist; they are not an either-or choice. Explore the research behind memory governance.

Will exporting my chat history let another AI understand me straight away?

An export preserves the original conversation, but that does not mean a new AI has understood its background. Final decisions and ideas that have since changed still need to be identified in those records.

Animesis saves and exports organized memories, including preferences, decisions and the context behind them. They give a subsequent AI background for understanding the project, beyond preserving the original conversation.

What is remembered and how it is used

View and correct memories while keeping the reasons for changes; understand what gets sent to whom when memories are used.

Can I view and correct something the AI remembered incorrectly?

Yes. In Animesis, you can view all memory content, make corrections, choose which memories remain in use, or export them.

A correction adds a new record instead of directly overwriting the original. Looking back, you can still see the earlier reasoning and why it changed.

If memory is stored locally, does it never leave my device?

Memories are stored on your device. When they are used, the relevant content is sent to the AI provider you have connected; memories that are not used are not sent.

How can I retain earlier decisions in a project that runs for months?

After months of work, saved preferences, decisions and progress can still be used. As the project changes, you can update memories and retain the reasons for changes, so you can distinguish earlier decisions from later adjustments.

During everyday use, important preferences and decisions are identified and saved. You can also explicitly say “remember this”, then review and adjust existing memories.

Can I avoid repeating report formats and budget limits every time?

You can save these requirements as rules for AIs connected to Animesis to use in later work. “Put the conclusion first” and “keep the budget below this amount” do not have to be explained from scratch each time.

When requirements change, you can correct them while retaining earlier records and the reasons for the changes. Remember the rules, and why they changed.

What can memory retain after a model upgrade?

It can retain background, preferences and decisions that have already been saved, along with the reasons they changed. A model’s capabilities and style may change, but these accumulated memories do not have to be rebuilt.

Animesis keeps memory independent of the model. You can switch to a supported AI and continue using the same memory.

What is Animesis, and how does it differ from an AI’s built-in memory?

Animesis is a governance-based memory system for long-term AI collaboration. Memories are stored on your device, and AIs that support Animesis can continue using them. You can view, correct and export memories, and decide which remain in use.

An AI’s built-in memory is managed by its platform and may not automatically carry over when you switch tools. Animesis works with the AI you already use, letting connected AIs draw on memory you control. Learn about Animesis memory.

Which AI tools and computer systems are currently supported?

The Animesis client currently supports macOS; Windows support is in progress. You can use the standard MCP protocol to connect supported desktop AI tools, including OpenClaw, Claude, Claude Code and Codex.

Browser-based AI services cannot currently connect. Shared memory for multiple users and team permission management are still in development. See Getting started for installation and connection steps.

Can Animesis see my memories?

Animesis’s cloud does not receive or store your original memory content. That content is stored on your device; the cloud receives only information such as category and importance to make governance decisions.

When memories are used, the content being used is sent to the AI provider you have connected. See Your data for local storage, use and export.

How do I apply to use Animesis, and does it cost anything?

The beta is currently by invitation. Start with the beta application. We arrange invitations based on use cases and contact you by email. After you receive an invitation, follow the instructions to create an account, download and install.

Where can I find operating records and the research behind Animesis?
